Since 2007

In 2007 KOSHISH a Tata Institute of Social Sciences initiative supported Project Crayons to network with ‘Beggars Home’ in Mumbai. In beggars home every month one can cite 16 incidences of death due to lack of proper health infrastructure. After Project Crayons’ intervention the number of death incidences reduced. We have years of experience with health and organized health camps and awareness programmes for children and youth.

We designed this programme named Aastha for the homeless, especially children on the streets. Anyone who sees an ailing homeless person can contact Aastha. A fleet of ambulances forming a health line coordinated with a toll free telephone line which provides medical emergency services for the homeless.

Presently we have 3 ambulances and this was possible with support of corporate like GEODESIC, DEUTSCHE BANK, POWERICA, 1st GLOBAL. Aastha’s essence is to cater health services to homeless people including street children, youth and aged people who are exposed to harshest health hazards in and around Mumbai with the support of Mumbai Police and the government hospitals like J.J. hospital, Sion hospital, Rajabari hospital, Cooper hospital.

The rescue team of ‘Aastha’ was built from the homeless group of people. They were trained in basic first aid and maintaining hospital protocol. In 2010 we got the communication system for the ambulance from Reliance ADAG which helped us currently to rescue 50 homeless cases every month.
